DIY Resin And Wood Coasters

DIY Resin And Wood Coasters

These DIY resin and wood coasters are a great way to reuse and upcycle leftover wood, stones, buttons, and thread. I used epoxy resin because it creates a durable, waterproof result–plus, I just love the pop of color that the epoxy brings to these recycled coaster designs. The epoxy resin will harden the bottle caps, and the natural hardwood will add a beautiful contrast. It’ll make for a beautiful, durable coaster set that’ll be great gifts for friends or family! Most of the supplies needed are available online and at craft stores.

How To Make Wood Coaster and a Coaster Holder

How To Make Coaster gifts

My idea for the coasters was to make them a bit wider than most coasters and give them a good contrast in color. I used hard pine from a local craft store, and my table saw to cut the pieces. Once I had all of the pieces cut, I began sanding them down, so they were smooth. After I had them sanded down well, I re-cut each piece using my miter saw for a nice perfect fit. This was done, I sanded down each piece again to ensure that everything fits well and glided evenly on top of the wood.

After completing this, I glued each piece together with wood glue and then let it sit overnight to dry. The next day I took a palm sander to it and sanded the coaster holder down and each coaster individually to ensure they were all polished up nicely. Once that was done, it was just attaching the holders onto a backing board so you could store your coasters in it, making sure that the curves were facing outward for ease of removal.

Natural Branch Coasters

Natural Branch wood gifts

What are natural branch coasters? As the name suggests, they are made from wood from a branch on a tree. Wood slices can be used to make beautiful and durable coasters that will give your guests something to look at while also protecting your furniture from water rings and spills. A great conversation piece for any gathering! When you finish a project that makes use of a tree limb, beware—you may feel compelled to toss it in the trash due to lack of storage space for large pieces of wood. Don’t throw away your bounty! This project will help you make a set of beautiful, one-of-a-kind coasters from that piece of wood.
